Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about discount codes, checkout and how this site works.

Using discount codes

What is a discount code?

A discount code is a short word or string of characters that a retailer accepts at checkout. It might take money off, add free delivery or include a gift. You may also see it called a voucher code, promo code or offer code.

How do I use a discount code?

Add your items to the basket on the retailer's site and go to the basket or checkout page. Paste the code into the promo code box and click apply. Check that the total has dropped before you pay.

Where is the promo code box at checkout?

It's usually on the basket page or the payment step. Some retailers hide it behind a small link such as "Have a promo code?". In apps it's often under the order summary.

Can I use more than one code in an order?

Most UK retailers accept one code per order. You can often still combine a code with sale prices, loyalty points or a free delivery threshold. The retailer's terms will confirm it.

What's the difference between a code and a deal?

A code has to be entered at checkout. A deal works on its own, such as a sale price, free delivery over a set spend or a member price, so there's nothing to type.

When a code doesn't work

Why was my code rejected?

The most common reasons are that it has expired or your basket is below the minimum spend. Codes also fail when an item is excluded, such as sale stock or gift cards, or when the code is for new customers only.

Do online codes work in shops?

Usually not. Online codes are normally for the website or app. Shops tend to use loyalty cards, printed vouchers or barcodes in an app instead.

How do I report a code that doesn't work?

Tell us through the contact page. Include the retailer, the code and what happened at checkout. We'll check it and update or remove the listing.

Student and NHS discounts

How do student discounts work?

You prove you're a student through a service such as UNiDAYS, Student Beans or TOTUM. The service then gives you a code or a link that applies the discount. Sale items are often excluded.

How do NHS discounts work?

Most come through Blue Light Card or Health Service Discounts. Once you've shown you work in health or social care, you get codes or links to use with participating retailers.

About this site

Is Discount Code free to use?

Yes. You don't need an account and there's no fee. Some links are affiliate links, so a retailer may pay us a small commission if you buy. You pay the same price either way.

Are the codes on this site checked?

Only offers marked "Checked" with a date have been tested by us. Everything else is listed as the retailer or network supplied it. We never call an offer verified just because it's in our list.

Can I send you a code?

Yes. Use the submit a code page and we'll check it before it goes live. We don't publish personal referral codes or one-time codes.
